Treatment Areas
Hip surgery
Hip pain does not always originate from the hip joint. A short course of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and rest will allow most conditions causing hip pain to settle. After this initial treatment a specific diagnosis should be made and a treatment plan determined.
Common conditions include trochanteric bursitis, gluteus tendonosis, hamstring tendonosis and intra articular pathology. Joint conditions include labral tears, articular damage and arthritis.
Total hip replacement is very successful and should be considered once all conservative options have been exhausted.
Knee surgery
Knee pain due to injury will in most cases settle within 7 to 10 days of rest, ice and analgesics. More severe acute injuries may require immediate attention. Ongoing pain, swelling or mechanical instability and locking requires specialist attention. Uncontrolled pain in osteoarthritis can often be treated by injection.
Knee pain due to injury that does not settle can be due to ligament, meniscus and articular cartilage injury. The knee may need to be examined to determine the exact structure injured and most appropriate investigations or treatment to suggest.
Total knee replacement is the final solution to a painful arthritic knee.
Hand surgery
Your hand is very important for optimal function. Hand injuries and chronic conditions are often neglected due to the common misconception that if you can move your fingers, all is okay and your hand will recover.
Incorrect management, however can lead to prolonged recovery and permanent loss of function. Often, specialist treatment is required in order to ensure a functional outcome. I offer years of experience and a team approach to rehabilitation.
Hand conditions that are most commonly treated include arthritis of the hand and wrist, carpal tunnel syndrome, ganglion, trigger fingers and acute hand injuries.
