Revision hip replacement

Revision hip replacement is surgery required to correct some aspects of a failed total hip replacement. There are many reasons why a hip replacement can fail, and failure is not common. Most total hip replacements are very successful and last for many years.

Reasons for failure of hip replacements include: dislocation, infection, loosening, leg length discrepancy and in the long term wear of the liner of the implant.

Well performed total hip replacements with proven implants will minimise the need for revision surgery. Some complications can’t be prevented even with best care possible.

The correct diagnosis of the reason for failure and experience to plan and execute the procedure optimally is of utmost importance when considering a revision of a total hip replacement. I offer assessment and revision surgery.
